3. The wheel (circa 3,500 B.C.)

4. The nail (circa 1 B.C.) (Runner up: The screw (circa 300 B.C., Rome)

5. Aquaducts (used to make water flows and for sewage) (ancient Egypt and Rome)

6. The compass (between the 9th and 11th century, China)

7. The printing press (1440, German)

8. The internal combustion engine (19th century)

9. The telephone (19th century, USA but others contributed)

10. The light bulb (19th century, USA but others contributed)

11. Penicillin (early 20th century, Scotland)

12. Contraceptives (Condoms - 18th century, "pill" - 1930s)

13. The Internet (1960s, USA and others)

  3. The pulley, of course. I'd add paper, incline plane, lever, gear, mathematics, plumbing. Hurrah for inventors!

  6. Such a great list.. and I would definitely add paper and plumbing too :) 668 times.. I still have Thursday 13 entries so very erratic and in double digits ... so long ago as well now that I had my last entry there it could well be prehistoric
