Five Things

1. Harvested kale.

2. Went to the grocery store.

3. Saw the chiropractor.

4. Regular chores every day (laundry, dishes, general upkeep, etc.)

5. Washed up the bed linens, including bedspread (takes forever to dry) and blanket.

In solidarity with federal workers, I started listing 5 things I did last week every Monday. I don't know if they still have to do that, but I have kept it up since it's a quick way to get something on the blog for Monday. Since I don't have a regular job, it's a fairly mundane list.

1. Had a haircut.

2. The young woman who helps me with the heavy cleaning had her day here, and the house sparkled.

3. Took a friend out so she could go to the doctor and run errands.

4. Fixed a closet door.

5. Went to the grocery store, bank, voted in a local primary, paid bills.

Also yesterday, we had a small bear in the backyard. Unfortunately, the battery in my camera was dead and my cellphone was in the other part of the house, so I didn't get a photo. Maybe if I stand outside and yell, "Here bear! Here bear!" it'll come back. What do you think?

1. Celebrated my husband's birthday.

2. Made lunch for my husband every day while he was cutting, raking, and baling hay.

3. Baked my husband a cake for his birthday.

4. Laundry, house cleaning, other chores.

5. Internet research

2. Went to Walmart to complete the shopping list I was unable to finish last week when we shopped, and the power went out.

3. Finished up three books: (1) The Griffin Sisters Greatest Hits, by Jennifer Weiner, (2) A Circle of Uncommon Witches, by Paige Crutcher, and (3) Like Mother, Like Mother, by Susan Reiger.

4. Walked on the treadmill, did laundry and other chores, yada yada.

5. Played the guitar, wrote a short story.

1. Fixed (I hope) a relative's issue with her computer.

2. Went to the bank.

3. My husband and I went to Walmart for a stock-up trip. I don't like to shop there, but around here there aren't many options. We went to the Walmart on the far side of the city where the rich people live as it is generally better stocked. We were shopping and the power went out. It did not come back on. We were not able to finish getting what we needed though they were able to check us out with what we had. The checkout machines have batteries, we were told, but they wouldn't last long. The associates stopped letting people into the store. The power had been out for almost 1/2 hour when we left.

4. My helper came, and we cleaned the house.

5. Did the usual daily chores, walked on the treadmill every day except Sunday, went to the grocery store, etc.

3. Continued my daily routine of walking on the treadmill.

4. Went to the Division of Motor Vehicles for some paperwork only to find a 3-hour wait, so I left.

5. I learned a good lesson about how little certain people care for me.

Five Things

Five things I accomplished last week -

1. My husband and I went to a historical lecture on the history of Carvins Cove. The Cove is Roanoke City's main source of drinking water, but it is located in Botetourt County. It is named after William Carvin, who was an early settler in the area.

2. I listened to the Board of Supervisors meeting to see what my local representatives are doing. Big announcement! One of our industries is making a $30 million investment and bringing in 270 jobs.

3. My chiropractor and I had a long talk about health issues. I probably need to find a podiatrist.

4. I wrote an 800-word short story. It is now sitting in my "look at in about 6 weeks" file. Things like that always require a second rewrite.

5. I picked the guitar back up and for 5 nights in a row I have played 2-3 songs. I am using a cheap travel guitar that weighs nothing because of my back issues, and the strings are difficult because I need a lighter gauge, but for the moment the heavier gauge string will help get the callouses back on my fingertips quickly and once that happens, I will change them out. So far, the tendonitis in my upper arm and shoulder that caused me to stop playing is not overwhelming me with pain. Fingers crossed.

Five Things

Five things I did last week -

1. Prepared country style spareribs and did not overcook them this time.

2. Walked on the treadmill and finally hit the 30-minute mark. It's not yet sustainable but I'm getting there. Twenty-five minutes is still the go-to mark but I am walking that at a little faster pace now, too.

3. Finished a book called Memory Called Empire, by Arkady Martine, which was a science fiction book a friend gave me for Christmas. Very deep and intriguing especially with regards to language use across empires.

4. I listened to another book called You Will Find Your People by Lane Moore. This was a self-help book about finding friends, being a good friend, and setting boundaries. It honestly was the first book I've ever read on that topic that resonated with me.

5. The grocery store saw me enter it twice; once on Tuesday and again on Friday. I paid my first tariff on Green Giant lightly sauced broccoli. It had been two boxes for $1.50, now it is up to $2.19 per box. It says on the package "Product of Mexico." I like these steamers as they have just enough food for the two of us and make an easy way to ensure we get a vegetable at dinner, but at that price I will have to look for something else now. That's too expensive. I didn't have time to browse when I was in the store so that will be a chore for this week.

Five Things

Five things I did last week -

1. Walked a total of 170 minutes on the treadmill. This may not sound like much - but if one understands that after 25 minutes of walking, I am bent over double with pain caused by adhesions in my abdominal area, one hopefully understands that this is a big deal. (I doubt there are computer algorithms that take such things into account.)

2. I received my pneumonia shot.

3. Cooked a pork roast for my husband that turned out to be too tough to eat. For some reason, I cannot get pork to cook properly anymore. It hasn't cooked well since the pandemic. My husband says it is the way they are cutting the meat now.

4. I received a haircut.

5. We went to dinner Saturday night.

Five Things

Five things I did or learned last week:

1. I baked brownies (used a mix).

2. I went to the county administration building and paid for my husband's business license.

3. I saw the chiropractor and met with my banker.

4. I walked for 25 minutes on the treadmill every day except for Sunday.

5. I saw a master class in gaslighting and abuse. I learned how to achieve gaslighting and how to be an abuser. I also learned how to be the stronger party in a "negotiation" and end up on top even if I was the victim of gaslighting and abuse.
