Resting

If I had not been watching when this small buck decided to take a rest, I would not have seen him later. He lay there for quite a long time, surveying the area.

By my husband's standards, this buck is not big enough to kill during deer season. Others, of course, may not feel that way. I will be glad when hunting season is over.

  1. That one is a one year old maybe and should be left to grow. To really control the deer population it is important to harvest the females as they are really getting over populated. I don't know what the big deal is with hunting bucks, you can't eat the antlers.

  3. I see them a lot when I drive down our road and also on Country Club as they cross the roadway there. Traffic really needs to drive slowly there and pay attention. Also had one walk down our lane yesterday that the pups spied, but David told them to stay and the did so as not to bother the stressed out deer.

  5. I understand the need for culling the deer population and people feeding their families. I'm all for it. But the sound of gunshot every day is disconcerting. I know most hunters are a sure shot and are respectful with nature, but those few careless ones make me nervous.

  6. Like others, I understand the need to cull the herds, but don't care for hunting myself. I also hope people only kill what they can eat--or donate what they can't. We have programs here where hunters can donate a portion of their meat to food pantries and shelters, which I think a good thing. Can't say I'd like it myself, but know there are plenty of others who would love it.
