My review of Jim Minick's The Blueberry Years, printed in The Roanoke Times today, can be viewed here. Copyright issues keep me from printing it in its entirety but please go and read it if you like.
The nonfiction book is about growing blueberries in nearby Floyd County.
Minick, a Radford University professor, also wrote a column for the Roanoke Times' New River Valley edition. His last column, printed in August of this year, is located here.
Minick's website is here.
It's a very interesting book.
Great job on your review! Jim is a wonderful and insightful writer. I've added this book to my list of books to buy soon.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written. I love Jim's writing too.
ReplyDeleteA very well-written review, Anita. I'm going to see if my local library has this one. I can certainly relate to his difficulty in finding friends in a rural community. Here in the rural mountain community where we live, most of the folks grew up together and have family nearby, so us "outsiders" find it tough to make connections. It does get lonely sometimes.
