1. Vacation - alone.
2. Host a party with more than 20 people.
3. Fly to Europe.
4. Jump out of an airplane (with a parachute, of course).
5. Write a book.
6. Throw away all of my past writings.
7. Go for my Ph.D.
8. Say "no."
9. Say "yes."
10. Go out in the woods for a week without food, water, or company, and see if I could live off the land.
11. Make a movie.
12. Paint a picture.
13. Forget and move on.
These are all risks I'd like to take but am afraid to.
_____________
Thursday
Thirteen is played by lots of people; there is a list
here if
you want to read other Thursday Thirteens and/or play along. I've been playing
for a while and this is my 435rd time
to do a list of 13 on a Thursday.
I;ll be in your movie. But I'm never going to jump out of plane, cut my hair short, own a gun or vote Republican.
ReplyDelete#4. Forget the parachute jump. Too many risks there. #5. Write the book. That's not a risk. Trying to get is published or deciding whether to self-publish—there's the risk. #6. Keep your past writings. They ight be a valuable historical resource someday. #7. If you're not seeking employment in particular field, don't bother with the PhD. Spend the time reading things you want to read. Or writing the book. #10. Not a good idea nowadays. Too many dangers lurk in the woods, the water is likely polluted, and the food supply is iffy. Go for a short walk in the woods, though, and take your camera. My philosophy: "The older you get, the fewer risks you should take."
ReplyDeleteI have no desire to do number ten. that would be as unpleasant as going to Asia just to sweat ;)
DeleteThey say something like 90% of Americans want to have written a book. Less than 10% actually do it. I've done it about 30 times now. It's not easy, especially the first one, but it isn't that hard either. You just have to be willing to take the time and do the work.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you cross something off your list! My T13
ReplyDelete#10 could be riskier than you might think. Start small. Couple of days.
Deletewrite a book, girl, write a book. write a book of essays or Thursday thirteens but write a book. then you can publish it as an ebook as well , or first
Deletego for the party!
DeleteNot jumping out of a plane....no way.
ReplyDeletegreat list.. a scary lot they are, especially hosting a party of 20 or more and jumping out of an airplane.. but do write the book, make a movie, live off the land a spell.. not too scary and all doable! Have a great week! ~Lori~
ReplyDeleteI always want to write a book but never really get into it.
