Three on Thursday

Three on Thursday

1. What is an irrational fear you have?

A. That I will end up sleeping in a box under an overpass.

2. What is the chore that is the worst for you?

A. I am not fond of cleaning toilets, but at the moment, because of a health issue, I can do that more easily than I can run the vacuum.

3. Are you a sports person/fan? (Feel free to share the teams you cheer for! Go Team Go!)

A. Not really. My husband watches NASCAR so I sometimes see that when I sit with him. I like to watch the Olympics when they are on, but I do not keep up with who is doing what.

3 on Thursday

The 3 on Thursday meme:

1. What is your favorite TV show?

A. I don't have a favorite anymore. Big Bang Theory is probably the closest I have to a favorite, but to me a favorite TV show is one I absolutely can't wait to watch, with wonderful story lines and characters, and few fit that description these days. I am watching Game of Thrones but it is a bit gory for my taste sometimes, so while I don't miss it I wouldn't call it a favorite.

2. Do you like the beach or the pool?

A. Neither. I am not much into public water displays. When I was younger, I enjoyed the beach, and my parents had a backyard built-in pool when I was a teenager. But I am older now.

3. Are you a morning or night time shower person?

A. Actually, both. I take a good shower in the morning but do a quick rinse in the evening. I have terrible allergies and asthma and have discovered that rinsing away the pollen every day before bedtime is a good way to stay in better health.

Three on Thursday

Three on Thursday

1. What is your favorite summer time activity?

A. I like to garden. I have both a flower garden and a vegetable garden, so working in the soil is fun and productive.

2. What is your favorite "healthy" food to eat?

A. I am pretty sure potato chips don't count, right? How about something like strawberries? I love strawberries. And cucumber.

3. Do you ever think we will have a woman president? (If you would like to state who you think would be a good woman president, you may, just be respectful to others and it is their choice/opinion).

A. I would like to see a woman president, yes. The men have been messing things up long enough. I do not think the first female US president will be Hillary Clinton, however. I like Elizabeth Warren but I don't believe she has expressed a desire to run for the office. I think Oprah Winfrey would make a great goodwill ambassador, though perhaps not a president. I don't know what woman would make a great president, but I hope there is one out there.

Three On Thursday

New Meme: Three on Thursday

1. What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink?

A. I like A&W Root Beer. I also like decaffeinated Classic Coke. Do they still call it that, or is it all just Coke? I remember when the New Coke debuted and it did not do well. Anyway, because of my ulcers, I have not had soda of any kind since October 31, though.

2. Have you heard of the Kidnapped Nigerian Girls? Do you think that the US should do more to return these girls home?  Over 200 girls have been kidnapped from their school and held hostage by a militant group and/or being sold as child brides for $12 each. Very tragic.

A. Yes, I have read the news about this incident. I am not sure what more the US should do, as I understand they've sent resources to Nigeria. The girls have to be located, first, I think. And then plans must be put in place to ensure their safety. It is not an easy situation and not one about which I feel educated enough to make armchair comments. I agree, it is a tragic situation and something the international community as a whole should decry and work to change.

3. If you could live anywhere in the world (money is no issue) where would you live?

A. I like where I live now though I wouldn't mind a little bigger home (not by much, just maybe another 800 square feet or so). If money is no issue, then I would like to have several homes. This one in the Blue Ridge Mountains, another at Myrtle Beach, SC, and one somewhere over in Scotland.

Three on Thursday

Three on Thursday

1. Do you speak or can you translate another language? Which one?

A. I took Spanish in high school for three years, and I also had a year of Latin. Unfortunately, that was over 30 years ago and my retention of those two languages is minimal.

2. If you eat fast food, which is your favorite fast food place to go?

A. I like a small chain called Bellacino's. They have subs and pizza.

3. The cohost of this meme lives in Pensacola and we just had some heavy rain that cause MAJOR flooding. What is the worst natural disaster you have been in?

A. In 1985, our area experienced a major flood. About 40 people were killed and the damage was brutal. My grandmother lost most of her belongings; her home was along the Roanoke River. The basement in my home flooded even though I wasn't anywhere near water. We had about 11 inches of rain in a couple of hours. It was November 5, a Tuesday, and an election day. I have also been on the outskirts of a tornado.

Three On Thursday

Three on Thursday

Oh boy, a new meme!

1. Other than sleep and eat, what is your favorite thing to do?

A. I like to write, read, and be with my husband. I also enjoy photography, looking out the window, daydreaming, video games, and playing the guitar.

2. What are you thoughts about Health Care?

A. The Affordable Care Act was a gift to the health insurance companies and big business, and ultimately did nothing for us poor sots who live in this nation. It did not go far enough; I wanted the single payer option and something more along the lines of what England had (before they started to dismantle it to be like us). Our health care on the whole is a joke; our system is in distress and is beyond contempt. We let people die when we could save them, we allow hospitals to run people from their homes over unpaid bills, and we spend time and effort on the "disease of the day" instead of looking for wellness cures to our myriad of ills. We desperately need properly trained dieticians and nutritionists, more physical therapists, better mental health care, and more primary care physicians. We need to take the money out of medicine. It should be about people's needs, not people's greed.

3. Who would you say is your celebrity look-a-like? (feel free to post side by side comparison)

A. To the best of my knowledge, I don't have one.
