Humming Bee Moth

When I was on the Farm Tour a few weeks ago, several us spied this insect while we were sitting on the front porch of the Fincastle Winery.

I had never seen one of these before. According to this Wiki article, it's a type of hawkmoth.

  1. I've seen these before, albeit no very often. I never knew what they were called. Thanks for providing a name.

  2. I've never heard of these either! How beautiful.

  3. Strange. An imitator? Some mushrooms imitate other mushrooms. I wonder if that is true throughout nature. Like those fake wild strawberries.
