2. It rained in sheets. I braved the lightning and opened the back door to take shots of the rain going sideways.

4. The power and might of a storm is difficult to catch on camera. Unless you can get the jag of a lightning bolt, it is hard to do justice to the ferocity of Mother Nature.

6. The water ran off my hill and down my driveway, sending most of the gravel off the drive. The pasture beside me flooded and became a small river.
7. When it was over, the sun burst forth. So I went I outside to check damage.

9. My neighbor's walnut tree did not survive. I don't know if it blew over or if lightning struck it.

11. This tree was behind my shed, not 100 feet from my house. It is now gone, nothing left but a 12-feet tall stump. I think lightning hit this tree but wouldn't swear to it.
12. The birds sang after the rain, though, like a rainbow of sound.

We're getting storms, but the worst of it seems to skirt around us. I always wonder how the little birds manage through it all.

ReplyDeleteI once spent an afternoon driving around, trying to get pictures of lightening bolts. It's a sad tale. Lot of lightning. No photo.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to put some straw mulch on my garden for a week. Now it is all midew and I wonder if I should even use it. Forget about hanging laundry.
ReplyDeleteGoodness... I was outside and saw the storm and black clouds to the north of us. We got rain, but none of those damaging winds like you did.
ReplyDeleteAlways hate it when a tree goes down or is damaged so badly that it can't survive.. we lost one to lightning in Maryland and another during Hurricane Isabel. They were both very large old oak trees and we were sorry to see them fall.

I tried taking pictures of rain going side-ways and it didn't work, either! It looks like the walnut was hit by lightning - I had a small oak some years ago that looked the same way after it got hit. Time to plant more trees!!
