Saturday 9: 4-5 Seconds

Saturday 9: FortyFive Seconds (2015)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Well, this song is different.

1) The very bad day described in this song began promisingly enough. The lyrics tells us, "Woke up an optimist, sun was shining, I'm positive." How did your day begin?

A. When I woke up this morning, you were on my mind.
'Cause I got troubles, oh, and worries, oh oh,
and how could I manage without Saturday nine?

2) This song refers to Monday morning. What's on your plate for Monday?

A. Physical therapy. Every Monday, my physical therapist digs into my stomach and tries to stretch out the scar tissue that has bound my abdominal muscles together so that they stay in a constant cramp. Not exactly the best start to the any week.

3) The lyrics request, "promise you'll pay my bail." Have you ever had to bail anyone out of jail? (Or have you been bailed out?)

A. I have never paid anyone's bail, nor have I been bailed out, though I once was picked up by the police for being a run away. They let me go, though they followed me home.

4) Rihanna gets top billing in this all-star trio. She says that when she was a little girl, she used to walk around singing "A Whole New World" from Disney's Aladdin. What's your favorite song from a Disney movie?

A. I don't really have one, but I will go with Hakuna Matata. I'm not exactly sure that's a song. It is, however, what came to mind with the query.

5) Rihanna dated outfielder Matt Kemp when he was with the LA Dodgers. Opening Day is less than a month away. Are you a baseball fan?

A. No. But I remember once in elementary school, when I was always among the last picked because (a) I was a girl and (b) not a very physically inclined one at that, I once caught a fly ball and won the game with the out. I remember all the kids running towards me, yelling and cheering, including the guys who never gave me a second glance and the girls who rarely spoke to me. I think I was in the fourth grade. That's the only time I ever did any thing successfully in the physical world.

6) Kanye West also sings on this week's song. When he was a little boy, he spent a year in China with his mother. Have you ever lived overseas (as opposed to just visiting on vacation)?

A. No. I have visited the lands across the waters, but never called them home. Though Scotland and Ireland, they call to me sometimes in my dreams, those lands of my forefathers and fey, strange earth mothers. Their DNA rests in my bones.

7) Mr. West is part owner of the Fatburger chain. Do you like grilled onions on your burger?

A. Alas, I no longer eat onions, thanks to the ulcers in my stomach. Did you know two years ago I had 10 bleeding ulcers in my stomach and 50 others in my upper intestines? Actually more than 50, I stopped counting them on the computer print-out at 50. Fortunately, I never spurted blood all over the dinner table like Lord Grantham did earlier in the 6th season of Downton Abbey. I must say, though, that scene made me take my condition more seriously.

8) This week's third artist, Paul McCartney, is a vegetarian. Think about your most recent meal. Did it include chicken, pork, or beef? Eggs or dairy?

A. It was a blueberry Pop Tart. I don't think it's even in the food groups. And probably not something I should be eating anyway but I have a bad upper respiratory infection and didn't feel like cooking.

9) Paul was born at 2:00 PM on a Thursday. Do you know what day of the week you were born? Do you know the exact time?

A. I was born a Gemini air sign, under the light of a full moon, at 3:05 a.m. on Saturday in early June. Aries rode in on the rising sun and Sagittarius raced across that beautiful, round night orb as I emerged from the womb, already outrageous and eager to create. Neptune is my power planet and six is my life path number. The universe is my world for my God is not small.

  1. How cool is it that Saturday 9 is now immortalized in song!

I winced when I read about your Monday PT. I hope it's one of those "hurts so good" kinda things that leaves you ultimately feeling better.

  2. Must be something about those Irish genes. Our first trip to Ireland, we went by ferry from Wales and I swear that my heart "leaped up" (didn't realize that was possible) when the hills around Dublin came into view. I had the very strong feeling of "going home." I feel that way whenever we go back. (I think I've been there 3 or 4 times now)

As for your baseball story, I could feel the moment in my bones. I never had that kind of moment, but I had that kind of non-athletic childhood.

  3. Definitely NOT a fun way to start a Monday morning!! Ugh! Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. I was always the last one to be picked for a team, but that was OK. I used to take left field because no one ever hit the ball there.

  5. I was always the last one picked. Probably because of my name.
