My husband is a hard-working fellow. He has three jobs - he's a Battalion Chief with the local city fire department, a septic tank installer, and a farmer. He is a good guy and I'm lucky to have him.

Between the hunting and the tractor and the dress blues he reminds me a bit of my grandfather. I love the hat you're wearing in the wedding picture.
ReplyDeleteAs to NaNo, I had a hard time with it the first few times I did it, too. Merely making the minimum each day seemed a huge thing, and I didn't have that much else to do as I wasn't working back then.
Just this morning I was thinking about a woman who comes to our write-ins who didn't want to word war because she couldn't use the words afterwords. But the thing is, NaNo isn't about coming up with the golden tablet. It's about forcing yourself to tap into the well of creativity from which the words come.
I don't try to come up with material that will be specifically keep-able. I try to catch the flow. Most of the time when you're writing you can't really tell what's keep-able anyway. Everything will look different when you set it aside and come back later. But I find that if I can get as close as possible to that well of creativity not only do the words come faster and easier, I will also run across ideas I hadn't had before. Wonderful things will appear on the page as if by magic. Although I will probably have to ditch a lot of words in revision, it's worth it to get at the good stuff.
I guess a lot of folks keep things compartmentalized which might explain your husbands reaction to a party on the job...
