The Fat Groundhog

We have an acorn tree near our shed, and the groundhog likes acorns.

It also lives under the shed. Nothing I put in the hole or around it makes it leave. I once poured mothballs down the hole and later found them in a pile a few feet away from the opening.

I worry about the foundation of the outbuilding.

When we had a dog, which was 15 years ago, we didn't have trouble with things like groundhogs, but this one moved in a few years after the dog died, and it, or its offspring, has been there ever since.

  1. I can make him leave if you like. Just let me know. I need a shovel and a flare.

  2. He is so cute!! You could call someone to remove him to some woods somewhere, far far away. There are companies that do it humanely.

  3. He is so cute and fat! I have them too. I worry about the horses stepping into one of their holes and breaking a leg. I kept emptying the wheelbarrow full of manure into the hole that worried me most. It took a while but finally they abandoned that hole. That's funny about the moth balls. Reminds me of a cartoon.

  4. He's adorable! I haven't seen any of our local groundhogs in a couple months now. Won't be long before they're hibernating.

  5. And that is one of the few good reasons to have a dog. Groundhogs are very cute and quite destructive.
