Hayin' Time

Last week, before the rains came again Friday night, my husband managed to cut and bale a few of our fields of hay.

I took this photo from the side yard; he is a good distance away, about five football fields or more. I used my Nikon Coolpix P500 to take the shots. It was late in the day and I was shooting into the sun.

  1. We're going to have to get our own hay equipment. The farmer who was supposed to cut ours never came. First we were on the bottom of his list (there is a lot of small acreage around here like us where the people are not actually farmers and so haven't invested in their own equipment). Then the rains came. Then we were on the bottom of the list again. Finally the grass was all brown and since it was also weedy (we haven't gotten a chance yet to correct these fields) we decided to just mow it this time and hope we get a second cutting. Hay is like a thorn in my side. Something I always worry about. I should write about this. I feel a blog coming on....

  2. They were able to cut about half of our fields. I sure hope they can get the rest...before winter!

  3. Soem of the farms I pass en route to and from work have recently had a second cutting. Wish I could enjoy that smell again without it aggrevating allergies! :-|
