What Good Are Words

I feel like I should say something about the shooting in Connecticut yesterday, where little children were gunned down in yet another senseless act of violence in this country.

Yet I can't find the words. What do you say?

Do you say - why does this continue to happen?

Do you say - there must be something very wrong with our society, for this doesn't happen (at least not this frequently) in other countries?

What do you say?

Do you say - we need gun control, because we don't need assault weapons in the hands of the masses?

Do you say - we need better mental health support, nationwide, an entire network set up to catch the people who are most likely to take the lives of others?

Do you say - our entire society needs to be reviewed, from religion to education to media and beyond, so that we can understand why we've become a nation of murderers?

Do you say - we're one sick society, maybe the sickest in the world?

What do you say?

  2. Some will blame it on God... some on the lack of God. some on mental issues, anger, gun control, a society run amok. I wish I had the answers.

  3. Linda Marshall puts her finger on it here:

A Culture That Condones The Killing Of Children And Teaches Children To Kill

But Michael Moore had diagnosed this sickness years ago, with "Bowling for Columbine". I can only suppose the especial hatred Americans reserve for Mr Moore has to do with the accuracy with which he saw what was wrong with their society and dared to express it. Nobody is as hated as the person who tells an unwelcome truth.

  4. It's hard to understand such senseless violence against innocent people, especially as young as these children. And, like you, Anita, why these acts keep happening in this country with such increasing frequency as if these sick individuals are trying to outdo one another in their sick twisted ways of thinking.
