Stuff On My Mind

If I were an alien and I came to the county I live in, and looked around at the multitude of churches, and then visited the recycling bins and saw all of the glass liquor and wine bottles and beer boxes, I could only assume that we are a county full of religious drunks.

***

I do not like bugs. Spiders seem to be readying themselves for winter already. What is up with that?

***

Clover and wire grass at least cover the dirt in the yard. I really don't care if they're not the most desirable lawn covering.

***

I do not deal well with liars and cheats.

***

My flowers (marigolds, pansies, petunias, all in pots), which decorate my deck, are sickly looking and I can't figure out what is wrong with them.

***

I do not believe a single word of any political commercial from either party. See the "liars and cheats" item above.

***

Reality TV has taken over, and I'm sick of it. I want to see good story telling, riveting acting, and good drama. Why is that too much to ask?

When I go to the mailbox and all I have is a single piece of junk mail, I consider it a wasted 3 minutes of my life. That is how long it takes me to get from my kitchen, down the driveway, and back inside, if I take the car. It's a lot longer if I walk.

***

Actually, going to the mailbox is probably a waste of time, and over the last 28 years, I have easily lost 26,000 minutes (433 hours, or 18 days) just going after the mail.

  1. I agree with you on the political ads. They do it because it works and until it QUITS working, they will KEEP doing it.
As far as reality TV, it works because it is cheap. No writers. I miss those days when you couldn't wait to see the show next week. Now we just channel surf and I read or play sudoku. How boring is that?

  2. We had three pieces of junk mail today and that was it. I didn't make a special trip to get it though. I stopped on my way past it as I was coming home from shopping. I generally do try to kill two birds with one stone and combine my activities when the truck is involved... otherwise I walk to the mail box. :-))

  3. The thing is, Reality TV is cheaper to produce than drama (no actors to pay for a start!) and it is very popular. People watch it in droves and talk about how foolish and stupid and contemptible the contestants are around the water cooler. And if they are watching the wretched stuff, they are watching the adverts too. Free market TV makes more of this kind of programme likely, not less.

  4. We have a long driveway and I have that SAME mail thought quite frequently. "well that was a long walk for nothing."
I do not like reality TV shows (or most TV shows for that matter) But reality shows are just so boring and pointless. I have enough reality in my own life. I'd rather watch something wonderfully make-believe.
