What's this stuff?

We woke this morning to an unfamiliar site!

About two inches of very wet snow blankets the ground.

I went outside twice before 8 a.m. to take a few photos so that in my older age I can remember what snow looked like.

The birds were chirping their morning greeting. The air was very still, waiting, I think, on more wintry weather. The bird noises echoed off the house. The sounds were quite lovely.

The roads are uncovered. This is a good kind of snow, when you can still travel but the ground gets the benefit of the moisture. From a farming point of view, this was much needed and will be a big help.

  1. It's beautiful isn't it? WE didn't get quite as much as you but the kids are loving it! Supposed to be getting a bit more aren't we?

  3. At 10:30 AM, in eastern Franklin County, the snow is just starting. The glaze of ice that covers everything is still here.

But the fields so need a good layer of snow that blankets the earth for a few days. I'm prepared to burrow in until it's over.

  4. Lovely, lovely shots! We have snow in the NC mountains, as well, with more expected. Very pretty, but I've got to say---I'm so, so ready for spring.

  5. We had a bunch of Cardinals in our yard too. I love the red and white contrast. It's like the collision of winter and spring! Great photos!

  6. Oh, I'm so jealous! It never snowed in Danville when I lived there. My friend, who still lives there, sent me pics today. You all got a lot of snow! Enjoy!
